Jonathan Metzl, Director of the Program in Culture, Health, and Culture
University of Michigan

Jonathan M. Metzl is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and
Women's Studies, and Director of the Program in Culture, Health, and
Medicine, at the University of Michigan. In this capacity he works as
an Attending Physician in the adult psychiatric clinics and
teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels on gender and
health and the history of medicine.
In addition, he is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Institute for
Research on Women and Gender. He has written for such journals as the
American Journal of Psychiatry; the American Journal of Psychotherapy;
Textual Practice; Harvard Review of Psychiatry; Academic Medicine;
Gender and History; and SIGNS: The Journal of Women, Culture, and
Society. His book, Prozac on the Couch: Prescribing Gender in the Era
of Wonder Drugs, was published in 2003 by Duke University Press.
